Anyone else with a liteon 812 that consistently burns good dvds tell me exactly how you do it. What firmware, burning software, type of dvd and brand and where you bought it. This would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Hey there! I have a lite-on 812 and haven't had any problems. I have never downloaded firmware so i don't feel that is a problem. I use DVD Shrink for backing up movies and DVD Decrypter for backing up PS2 games.
For Movies i just take the VIDEO_TS file and burn it as a "Data" DVD using Sonic MyDVD which came with my burner. As far as i can see you should be able to do that with any software. For ps2 i just take the ISO from DVD Decypter and then burn it on a disk.
I use Ridata DVD+R's 4X and run them at that speed. these dvd's have a code of RICOHJPNR01, which from my research is really good.
hope this helps

Hurley check out my guide using Shrink & Decrypter here http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/
This should make it easy for you and you will have almost perfect copies this way.'

It is also possible your DVD player just dosen't like copied DVD's. Sad but true. :-(
Have you tried your DVD in a buddies player or just any other player than yours?

Nero CD DVD speed tool will do all sorts of test's. I recommend the file and surface scan test. This should let you know whats going on..

There is also a tool called Kprobe that is only for Litey's. It scans for PI and PIF errors. It is a free proggy. You can find it here. http://club.cdfreaks.com/ Look in the lite-on forum. There is also a tool there called omnipatcher that will automatically booktype dvd+r/rw media to dvd-rom making your backups much more compatable, along with some write strategies.
I agree with the others in this thread, one of the best budget medias for Lite-on's is Ricohjpn.

I recommend reading and subscribing to cd freaks for more info since they have a forum specializing in only Lite-on's. I have recieved a lot of help and info for my Litey. I still like this forum for dvd backup and more generalized questions and info.
