I'm having problems backing up dvd movies.
I was using DVD Xcopy, mostly with not errors, but tward the end of the movie it would stop working when I watched it.
So I found dvd shrink 3.2.0.15 and dvd decrypter 3.5.1.0..
I've tried using dvd shrink then have decrypter burn the movie.. I get i/o error
device 1:0:0 TSSTcorp dc/dvdw ts-h542a
interpretation : check condition
blah blah.. I bought new media Memorex 8x dvd+r

then try to rip with decrypter with directions from http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/129157

then use shrink to shrink the file, and nero to burn it.. everything works fine until I try to watch the movie.
The fbi warnings appear then nothing.. doesn't play the movie.

durning the shrink step the enable video preview works fine.. I see the movie. I just can't play it.

I hope I didn't ramble too much.. thanks for any help..
and here is nero log

Ok you are having a few problem that can be easily fixed.

1) Get better media Memorex are the worst period...

2)If you look at your Log's you are burning @ x8 speed you really need to slow this down to x4 at least

3) Your Burner needs to be put in DMA mode

Try those 3 things and you should have no more problems :-)

Changing Drives From PIO Mode to DMA

If the drive is not burning at the maximum speed, the IDE Controller the drive is attached to may be set to PIO mode and needs to be set to DMA.

To enable DMA mode using the Device Manager

1. Open Device Manager.

2. Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels.

3. Right-click the icon for the channel to which the device is connected, select Properties, and then click the Advanced Settings tab.

4. In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select DMA if Available if the current setting is "PIO Only."
If the drop-down box already shows "DMA if Available" but the current transfer mode is PIO, then the user must toggle the settings. That is:

? Change the selection from "DMA if available" to PIO only, and click OK.

? Then repeat the steps above to change the selection to DMA if Available.

DMA - Direct Memory Access/Addressing - Much faster and more reliable way to transfer Data

PIO - Parallel Input/Output - Older and slower not as reliable as DMA

@FEARDIZ:
Make sure you remove the serial number from your Nero logs when you post them ;) We don't want people stealing them here. I've taken care of it for you this time.

ok thanks.. I'll reboot and try not to make another coaster.
Should the image file still be ok to just burn with Nero?
Also some basic questions..
shrink ONLY shrinks the size down
and decrypter only decrypts and burns

I'd like to burn all the movies to a image file so I can make copies directly from the image file, if I were to lose the org. backup..
so I'd use decrpter and then shrink it so that should be fine??

Is there any noticable difference when using shink in the quality settings?

Thanks for the help

I changed the ide controller to dma and rebooted, but it doesn't seem to want to change from pio..
I slowed down the speed to 4x and made another coaster.

Feardiz,

Check out my site http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/

Pick the guide on backing up with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. Try your back up this way and see how that works? Then let me know how it worked out for you

Good luck,
