I've noticed everytime I use the image making wizard in alcohol I always come out with two files .mds and .mdf now i've heard that your supposed to get a .bin and a .cue file... is that why my games aren't working?

mdf/mds are alcohol 120's equivlent of a bin/cue file

You can use burnatonce (free) to create bin/cue files.
