Hi, I just got a SONY DRX-710UL external burner, I'm using the nero 6 OEM that came with it. I tried burning some ISOs on a couple of LG DVD+R media using burn speed of 4X. Nero showed all the recording sessions as successful but I can never access the files on those discs. Those discs would give me an "invalid function" error on this burner and nothing would show up on my other dvd-rom. I've updated the firmwire, ASPI files, nero software and checked that DMA is on but it still wouldnt't burn properly. I tried burning some CD-r on this burner and they wouldn't work either.
Software: Bundled Nero 6
Hardware: Sony DRX-710UL
[ + : DVD+R DL 2.4x , DVD+R 16x , DVD+RW 4x ]
[ - : DVD-R 8x , DVD-RW 4x ]
[ CD-r 48x, CD-RW 24x, CD-rom 48x]
Media : LG 1-8x DVD+R
OS : WinXP sp2

I have the internal version of the Sony drive. I had a similar problem in that the 4X DVDs I burned would play fine in the burner and my set top dvd players but would not play in the computer dvd-rom. The computer would not even recognize the dvd in the dvd-rom drive. I thought this might be a Windows XP problem so I searched the Microsoft Knowledgebase using the error message. I found out that it has something to do with the "UDF" file format. My dvd-rom drive is an older drive and evidently does not recognize the newer version of the UDF file format. Hope this helps.

@colweld - post latest section of your Nero logfile BUT DON'T Post your serial number(s) usually beginning with '1A21' or similar. - the logfile is in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log. All burns are appended to the logfile, good and bad, so you will see where each section begins and ends (the serial is around the beginning of each section so that helps with identifying the sections.
@matulko - ditto to you...
@mlabbe - could also be due to crap media ?.. post some info if you need any help...

Hi,
I have a similar problem with a Sony DRX-710UL and the OEM version of the Nero suite. If I try to burn a CD or a DVD, in whichever format and whichever project, I get a "Burn failed!" error and end up with a coaster. I have successfully burned one disc using an ISO image, indicating that the drive is functionally OK, but since then it hasn't worked at all.
Incidentally I had exactly the same problem with a previous DVD burner which I returned because I thought the drive was faulty.
Any thoughts? Hope somebody can help because this is driving me nuts.....
Thanks guys

Creaky, you might just be my #1 hero. I've just burned my second successful VCD ever, it didn't play in my DVD player but that's probably compatibility reasons with the player rather than something with the disc, because the disc plays marvellously in my computer!!!
I'm going to try burning a few DVDs tonight, just to confirm that it works and I'll let you know what happens but I have to say I'm very hopeful.
Thanks very much for your assistance, much appreciated and if you ever need advice on IBM computers let me know!
