Well normally I'd say that you should look around the site a bit, because we encourage people to do as much as they can on their own, but it is xmas and I'm in the holiday spirit.

The programs you will need for free....

Some useful links for info.....

The quality of your blank discs can make a big difference in how your backups turn out so here's a couple of links for identifying your blank discs.

After you've ingested all that, if you have any questions, come on back.

@beavisfan
Excellent advice. Don't even try to burn with DVD Shrink, because DVD Shrink can't burn! It will however recognize 3 burning programs and auto burn using whichever you set it up for. The 3 are: Nero, DVD Decrypter, and CopyToDVD.

I actually have a question for you zippy or any other expert willing to help. I am ordering a NEC 16X Double Layer DVD±RW Drive, Silver, Model ND-3500A http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-152-030&depa=1 . Since you said It makes a big difference, I am wondering what blank disc should I use? Thanks alot.

Not exactly. The initial analysis breaks the DVD down into the categories of menus, main movie, and extras and identifies all the audio and subtitle tracks. To lower the compression needed to fit onto a single layer DVDR we want to get rid of anything we don't want like maybe if I don't speak swahili, I can get rid of that audio. If you check out the guides and some of the links that I gave you, that information is there for you. If you are absolutely dying to burn a movie right now with as little reading as possible then look for the post by ScubaPete on at this link.....

Yes. After Shrink is done with the DVD, you can put a blank in the drive to burn to.

The last two links that I gave skoalmint are a good starting point for deciding what media to use. Whenever you choose a blank always remember cost does not equal quality. Many lower quality brands often cost more higher quality brands do. But the overall favorite around here seems to be the Ritek G04 which I believe equals the Ritek Ridata DVD-R 4x. Ritek Ridata DVD+R 4x are Ritek G03 which are claimed to be subpar for video purposes.
But if you are actually going to use dual layer media then I really wouldn't know what to recommend.
