Hey all!
Well my brother got an NEC 3500A today for Christmas and we've been playing around with it backing up our DVD collection all day.
Along the way we've had a lot of problems copying discs with Nero, however. Earlier I used DVD Shrink to cut down a dual layer movie and then burned the new movie using Nero to a DVD+RW and tested it out on our set top DVD players. After they worked flawlessly I decided to copy the movie onto a regular DVD-R and move on to the next movie. So I popped the DVD+RW in the drive and went into nero and chose Copy DVD and set it to the Movie setting. I unchecked on the fly and had it write at a reasonable speed (not the fastest). I set it on its way, changing the disc half way through when it was done creating the image and was ready to burn. The process completed a while later but the disc was a complete dud. If we put it in the computer it would recognize it as a DVD Video but it couldn't play it. Attempting to play individual VOB files resulted in errors. The disc also refused to play in our set top DVD players.

We tried a couple more burns with various settings in Nero to no avail. Finally I broke down and ripped an ISO from the +RW and then burned that to the R with Nero and it worked great.

Is there some trick to getting Nero to properly copy your dvd movies? The movie we tried was NOT CSS encrypted or anything.
