copying/ripping a DVD to DVD-/+R

Very new at this...
All I would like to do is copy a normal DVD that perhaps would be store boughten and copy onto a DVD-/+R.

Obviously some will be unable to just copy due to the laws, but I understand we can "back-up." I have the nero software 6. I have read some feeback from others questions, but I am not sure how to "back-up" a DVD in the back up portion of the nero software. Help!!!
