After trying quite a few video converters the only one that seems to work for me was the Cucusoft 4.9. Although it was slow, 4hrs for a 1 hr video, it did the job I wanted it to do. TMPGE either left the converted vid with no sound or unmultiplexed. I tried MainConcept but when I hit convert it said that the program had experienced a problem and needed to shut down, so with that one I don't know yet. If anyone can help me with that problem it would be greatly appreciated.
NeroVision Express 3 made it so easy to author and burn my first dvd I'll stick with it!
And yes the DVD (DVD+RW) played perfectly on my player with an average picture, but what do you expect from a downloaded AVI file.
Overall I'm happy!

You do realize that NVE 3 will also convert your files and much faster than what it took you to do? Then you can set chapters, create a menu and burn to disc as you normally would.
I just did Bridge over River Kwai in about 2 hours to convert and it's a 3 hour movie!
GO VOLS !

So how do you convert an AVI or MPEG file with NVE3?

Open NVE, click on DVD video, click on add files, browse to your AVI files and add them. That's it. NVE will automatically convert them, when done it will let you edit, author, create menu, etc.
You can also add all the files at once by holding down Ctrl and clicking on each one you browsed to. NVE will automatically connect all of them and then convert.
Here is a simple NVE 3 quickie guide I wrote that may help:

Where do these converted files go on the hard drive?

You either make a folder and send them there or get them from the default folder. It's under configure. The default will actually have 4 folders for NVE-captured video, imported video ,exported video, and exported audio.
However unless you are closing NVE there is no need to go to the folder, it lets you continue with all your tasks as long as you keep it open right up to the burn. Your converted files will be right up there in the NVE window where it gives you all your options,(edit, create chapters, etc.) Only if you close it and save your project do you need to go to the file folder.

So in the final screen when it is saying preparing file(s), that's when the converting is taking place?
