XBOX SOFT MODDING QUESTION

i have read that it is possible to softmod an xbox,i have downloaded all the tutorials that i can find and as many of the files as i can,have now got a new crystal xbox made in november 2004,i think it is a v1.6 or v1.6b. my question is can this machine be softmodded?? if so is there a specific tutorial that can be followed?? any help greatly appreciated
