First time post..not so much a newbie, but def not a advanced user.
Have a Sony DRU-710A
Getting freezes and pixilization with DVD movie backups.
I know about the media issue..started with Memorex - they were horrible.
Went to TDK's a little better, out of 25 probably got 10 good backups.
So, I said let me go with the best, bought Taiyo Yudens- 8x I belive they are TY02
Same problems...have tried six of them and all freeze or pixilate!!!
From what I have read these are great disks..
Tried different software, Nero, Shrink and Dycryptor and even anyDVD...same problems with all software..
I prefer Shrink and Deycryptor...and I have set size to 4300...
Can't figure it out....
Have been through about 50-60 Discs with not much luck.
Ready to give up or buy some Verbatims as a last effort.
Could it be the burner?
The media?
Any ideas????

Your media choices are good, so thats not the problem.
The only thing I can think of, would be your burner, tho I could be wrong.
You might want to get some dvdrw's because those Taiyo Yuden coasters are costing you a fortune.
good luck

Unfortunately there are a lot of fake Taiyo Yudens doing the rounds, as these discs if the real deal are classed to be the best around.
Do you live in the U.K ?,and if so where did you buy the discs from ?

I dont know about the U.S as i live in the U.K but there are a lot of fake Taiyo's here and i imagine they find there way over to the U.S aswell.
Ritek are o.k but i have found they have slumpted in quality a lot since i last used them, i now use discs with the Fuji dye as these discs in my opinion have taken riteks crown.

He said the media code is TY02,so that shoots the fake TY theory down.
What is the fuji media code nowadays, because they used to outsource there work, to anybody that would do the job cheap.

Thanks for the replies,
It must be the media...why would the burner work sometimes and not others...
Can fakes have same code??
These TY are not "branded" - do they "brand" them?

you can get them branded and unbranded but if the media code tells you its TY02,its not a fake

That not entirely true as there are many vendors selling discs with a TY media code that are not genuine Taiyo Yuden discs.
Counterfeits are very clever in there ways LOL.

There is no harm in trying some different media try the discs with FUJIFILM03 or RITEK G05 i personally prefer the Fuji dye.
Or if available in the U.S yet Datawrite Titanium Silver 8x brand new media just been released and supposed to be the business using the CMC MAG. AE1 dye.
Not had a chance to try this disc yet but as soon as i run out i will be trialing this disc.

I use meritline and havent had a problem, tho ive heard some have. You might have a hard time getting your money back on the premise that they might be fake.
Like I said before go get a dvdrw or 2 and see what happens before you go shipping those ty's back when that might not be your problem.
Maven, I guess you, and I, are agreeing to disagree today.
CMC have been known to be some of the worst media you can buy.. unless its changed recently.

Basically i live in the U.K and i only deal with one company as there are very honest about what they sell.
Probably the best known for blank media here and they confirmed that there are vendors using the media code TY02 that are not genuune, i guess the only reason they know is they probably got stung at first.
As for the CMC dye this is only used in high quality discs, if you want more info about this disc and dye have a look at the below.

Are you trying to copy an original or a back up ?
What software you using to copy, have you tried different media ?
Not sure why you posted this message in here rather then making your own thread ?

So i guess you are copying a backup.
What speed you burning at ?
As for media well it depends what works for you, unfortunately disc brand does not mean a good quality dye (the important part of a writeable disc).
If looking for Dye types i go for Fuji or Ritek, in the U.K i could recommend some discs, but i imagine you are not U.K based, therefore im not much good in that respect LOL.

Hello everyone...
nate88818, at what speed are you burning your DVD ?
I never tought in a million years that burning speed would make a difference, once the data is on the disk, it's on the disk right ?
Well wrong for me !
Everything was 100% fine when I was burning cheap 2x DVD-R.
Bought some DVD-R that supported 4x, so started to burn at 4x, and bang. Freeze and skips near the end of the movies.
Decided to burn them at 2x (Tryed several media brands) and I could not believe it, burning at 2x solved *MY* problem.
Burn one at 2x, 4x, then try one at high speed.
Play all 3 on the same DVD Player, and see if get different results.
Also, I did not try the DVDShrink set to 4300mb, I still kept my default.
I might just try that, the 4300mb destination.

It's funny you should say try 2x....
I never tried it because in decrypter my blank TY's only say it supports 4x,6x, and 8x..
Borrowed some 4x Ritek Ridata's from a friend.
I borrowed them because they are +R's....I figured try the +R instead of the -R's...
Well he told me he burns at only 2x..have done 2 backups and they are great...
So what is it? Was it the 2x? Was it the different brand media? Was it because they are +R's??
Who knows...I will my -R TY's on 2x and see what happens...although I have already ordered some Ritek Ridata 4x +R's.
I have read that -R's are a bit more compatable with settop players...that is why I went with them...
What does everybody think? +R or -R?????
