I burned my first dvd and can watch it on the computer that created it; but my laptop does not even recognize that there is a disc in the drive. I use the same program to watch movies on both drives. Any clues as to what is wrong.

is your drive a CD-RW/DVD-ROM in your laptop or is just a CD-RW drive (assuming its a RW)

What make and model is your drive?

I used TDK DVD+R disc. I play regular movies all the time. The movie Icopied even plays in my dvd player used with my tv. My dvd rw can do + or - r,and + or _ rw. But since I am new to this, I use +r media. Thanx

My best guess would be that your laptop drive does not support +R format. Try using -R

i had a similar situation with my portable 7" RCA DVD player, it would not player my DVD+R discs but only -R's

If that doesn't work post back and we will try somthing else :)

LOL ;) its not an option that a buning program lets you make but its an option of media you pick.

The next time you get dvd blanks, look for DVD-R or ask for -R

I just purchased some -r media and will attempt to burn and watch it on my laptop. Will let you know the results. Thanx for all your help. I was not sure if I needed a specific program in order to watch my burned discs.

It's your media. I have a Dell 5100 and when using a burned Memorex DVD-R 4X or PRINCO DVD-R media it would not recognize them in the combo drive. Mine came with one type of combo drive and now has a Matshita CDRW/DVD UJDA740. At first I thought it was the combo drive and Dell sent me the Matshita which also didn't work.

I do know that Sony DVD-R 8x and Legacy DVD-R 8x (from Newegg.com) will work after burned.
