Hello & Happy new Year to you all.

I have been backing up DVD for several years now and have a collection of over 400.

My computer is is a P4 2.8, 1 Gig ram, 120Gig HD, XP Home with SP2, NEC ND-2500A (8x)DVD Writer & a Sony CDRW-DVD ROM. File system NTFS

( I have updated my dvd firmware on my NEC and I can now burn Dual Layer DVD's and read at 16x speed, The cost of Dual Layer Media is still to expensive so I have only cloned the special ones like Lord of the Rings etc)

I have used all sorts of sofware from DVD Decrypter, Smart Ripper, DVD X Copy, DVD X Rescue, DVDFAB, DVDShrink, CloneDVD, CloneDVD2, ANYDVD etc

The Only movie I have had a problem with so far is Van Helsing. Using DVD X Rescue I have managed to copy this DVD to a DVD5. DVD X Rescue does not support DL media. The Quality is not really up to my normal standard.

Please Note:

The Original Van Helsing DVD will not play correctly on my stand alone DVD Player. It's as if they have produced a faulty batch. Or is this a new type of copy protection / mastering error??????

Has anyone managed to copy Van Helsing? (Just the main movie please)

Software I can recommend is CloneDVD2 with ANYDVD, It's user friendly easy and supports DL Media http://www.slysoft.com/en/

Beleive it or not the media I use a lot is Princo A Grade -R & +R, I normally burn at 2X Speed (Yes I'm from the old school "that slow buring is better")

Thats all have fun...

Mark from New Zealand

I had no problem using Shrink, If it will not play in your stand alone, it is a bad disc. Is the Region right?

As above - no problems copying using Shrink.

Sounds very much like a faulty original.

Again as above, sounds very much like your original is faulty.

Shrink does not work. I have even tried several other original's and they all do the same.

Like I said this is the only DVD that I can not backup.

This must be a faulty batch.!!!

I backed mine up with dvdx platinum. I have to concur with everyone else you must have a bad disc. This is even more evident as it will not play on your standalone. Princos are not the best media.

Have you tried CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD? http://www.slysoft.com/en/

Some have suggested that these are by far the best on the planet.

Others have had no probs with Shrink/Decrypter etc.

Different strokes for different folks.
