DVD Identifier Locks Up, Will not run

I finally got a DVD+-R drive and it works OK, but when I went to use DVD Identifier I discovered something is obviously messed up. This happens everytime, so it's 100% repeatable. It's not a media problem, as it doesn't seem to ever actually try to read the media...

When I put my disc in the click on identify the logs will state "** Initiating ADIP Retrieval Method 1 (Original ADIP)" and that's the last thing the software does. At that point it's frozen, can't exit it, can't even kill the process. While the mouse and keyboard still work, the only thing you can get to come up is the task manager windows using ctrl-alt-del. No other software will run, and in fact the machine's network connection stops working, other computers on my network can no longer read or write the network drives on the one with the DVD burner. Normal restart is likewise impossible, it'll try, but it just sits there. Only way to get the machine rebooted is a complete power down, wait 10 seconds, power back on.

I thought it might be an ASPI issue, but I've tried Adaptec's latest, Nero's, and even the ForceASPI, same results each time. Incidentally I have found that DVD Decryptor does this too when I was trying to burn from an .img file. Never even got to try, as soon as I put the disc in and it noticed it changed to "looking up book type" and that was it. I've tried every different ASPI setting in it as well.

Anyone have any clue what's wrong?
