I just tried to copy disc 1 season 1 of 24 using DVD43FREE. It took about 3 seconds and just recorded an icon of some sort - clearly didn't get past the CCS. The DVD43 website refers people to Decrypter if they aren't using WinXP. I am using WinXP, but I would like a program that works. Is there a big difference between the two programs? Should I risk another DVD with this copy attempt? Thanks.
I have used several different programs to backup DVD's. About a year ago started out with DvdXcopy. I had varying degrees of success with it. Then I discovered DVD Decryptor/DVD Shrink. I used it for several months but found problems with it also. For one, if want to split a long movie onto 2 DVD's using Re-author you lose the menu's. If you want to copy a TV series DVD you will get questionable quality due to the amouth of data to be coppied. Many publishers put ove 3 hours of material on each dvd. The same goes for DVD Decryptor/Nero 6. Then I tried DVD Decryptor/TMPGEnc DVD Author for TV series DVD's. It works great but it is labor intensive.
Then I discovered CloneDVD 2/AnyDVD. This is a very elegant piece of software. You can easily copy any DVD and get great quality. I have compared the results with DVD Shrink and I cannot see any difference on my 36 inch Toshiba TV. You can also easily do the following:
1. Copy any DVD
2. Split any DVD onto 2 DVD's
3. Copy a multi-episode(TV series) DVD onto 2 DVD AND retain the menu's on both DVD's.
ClondDVD 2 is VERY fast! At least twice as fast as anything else I've tried!
I have friends and relatives who have gone the DVD Decryptor/DVD Shrink route and have ALL switched to Clone DVD 2.
One thing I always do when burning the DVD is to set the burn speed one click lower than the DVD's rated speed. In other words if the blank DVD is rated at 8X, I burn it at 6X. For 4X I use 2-2.4X. This way I ensure that my DVD will play in any of my three DVD players. I have Sony, JVC and Philips. They also play in my Xbox.
The choice is yours. If you're looking for ease, simplicity and great quality CloneDVD 2 is the way to go.
The problem is that I just bought ICopyDVDs2 yesterday, and I really would prefer not to have to buy another program yet!
Decrypter and Shrink is way to complicated and confusing for me.
What I need is a program that will work with ICopyDVDs2, since that is a very easy program to use. Hopefully, someone will know of something or DVD43 will update their software or something.

Welcome to the DVD43 fan club. I've been using the Nero + DVD43 (version 1.4) combination for a long time with perfect results. For some tougher DVDs, you may need to toggle DVD43 off and on to make it work. Also, a new free version (3.0.4) is out. According to the good man (?) who wrote the program, this is an improved version. So may be you can try the new version to see if it's any better:
Hi. This is my second attempt at burning a DVD, and it's already not working. It's just a TV show, but it's a recent release I believe. I've turned DVD43 on and off about 8 times with the disc inside, and it never helps. I also ran it through decrypter - then tried to burn it from ICopyDVDs2 that way - still no luck. It seems that this new release just can't be broken. I am wondering if other people are running into this program. I did successfully burn an older release movie, so it seems that the program is working as it is supposed to. I just downloaded DVD43 2 days ago. Would that still be the old version?
OK, I think I found the problem. I checked the "entire disk" box, and now it is taking 30 minutes to read it. I did not have to check anything with the movie I did before, so I didn't know I had to check it. Now, do I have to check that every time? What about the dual layer box?
