OK! so here's the deal.

I mistakenly bought DVD+R.
But... It now works!

I copied mc3 dub and it gets a little slow at times during menus and stuff, but fine during gameplay, so I can live with that.
Also copied God of War, and thats flawless.

Oh, and they werent Verbatims... they're Memorex. they work nice enough.

another thing maybe you can help me out with.
I had another Iso (GTAIII) that was under 700mb, so I tried to burn it to a CDR instead, and the ps2 completely ignored it... should I have burnt it onto a DVD no matter the size?

no you did the right thing in burning to cdr

but how do you load the games? ie modchip, swap magic etc

if you use swap magic there should be two discs, a cd loader and a dvd loader

No, I got a modchip in there.
Should have been straight, right?
I burned the image like I did with the other 2, with the ver. of DVD Decrypter.

you may need to put the ps2 in CD MODE,

the rule of thumb for modchips is basically this..(it may vary from chip to chip)but as i dont know which is yours,i cant say for sure

ps2 dvd copies

boot as normal,no special reset required

dvd movies

put in standby mode(red led)
hold the eject button for 2 secs or more then press eject to close tray and load

ps2 rips(cd's)

put in standby mode [red led)
hold the eject button for 2 secs or more then press eject to close tray and load

out of region dvd films(originals)

requires gameshark region dvd x etc

turning off chip(for ps1 protected game)

put in standby mode (red led)
hold eject for about 5 secs
eject to close

interesting that you are mentioning the "hold eject for 2 seconds" thing.

when trying to play the burned backup DVDs, sometimes, the PS2 needs me to put the Dvd in and out again, switch off and once more reload .. to finally accept and read the DVD.

Should I try this "holding eject for 2 seconds" trick here, too?

if you keep switching games, you may need to power off at the back of the ps2,
my messiah sometimes needs a fresh power up

normal dvd's normally required no special booting procedures

just try loading a dvd ps2 game(copy) like normal, eject, insert, eject to close

also try this

for dvd copies (ps2) eject, put disk in tray, eject to close....and when the ps2 just starts to boot(at the very start, when it makes that funny sound, from the tv),
press reset, then allow it to load properly

for cd's as i said above(hold eject)
