So I take it this method all by itself does NOT allow you to play backups?

Why do I always get:

ERROR: Failed to write destination file: *****.ELF

usually hdloader.elf fails, but sometimes it's the mcloader.elf. I've tried different media, different speeds, Nero, alochol, etc. anybody constantly getting this problem?

Man is it possible for someone to send me this thing already compiled and I can change the TITLE.DBA myself because I have made 10 coasters doing this... It acts as if it wants to load but doesn't...

It shows the Playstation2 title screen really quick and then just goes blank... Please someone help me...

Am I the only person who keeps making coasters and still not getting this to work? I made the title.db using titlemanfrontend and it does the same thing. If i use the HDLOADER.ELF that came with keyloader it fails, but if I use a HDLOADER.ELF I downloaded somewhere else it loads fine, but then fails on the MCLOADER.ELF. I thought maybe these were corrupt files form keylauncher, but I've downloaded from other places and still doesn't work. Any ideas? Anybody know another place I coudl get MCLOADER.ELF from? Thanks!

I noticed that it kept failing on the same .elf file, however when I tried a different memeory card, it failed on a different .elf file later during the install. Do these memory cards need to be formatted before you load them? Or is there something else I can try to do to stop getting these errors?

I'm having a problem with getting this exploit onto the memory card. I create the CD using Nero and an ISO file then when I boot the cd in the ps2 with a mod chip the "playstation scee" screen shows its booting but it freezes on this screen and wont start the install process. I am about to try acohol 120% instead of Nero with a bin but this should not matter right ? has anyone found this problem before and solved it ?

Hi All,
Thanks vonoven nice guide, however I have some questions, but first I have an unmodded PAL PS2 v9, I have made my own slide tool (very easy to do!!) but nothing else, ie no swap magic software etc, so my questions

1) The software from the guide, the hdloader and hdadvance are these the same as the software you would get commercially?
2) Is there anyway to make these programs boot without swap software, ie gameshark, swap magic etc ?
3) Can I use the original disk to load to a point then slide card it out and put in the created CD, will this work, if so when would I swap it out?
4) Do I need to edit SYSTEM.CNF so that vmode=PAL (my TV can display both NTSC and PAL formats)?

Thanks in advance
F.

fingerzme- how did you make your own slide tool could you upload a guide or picture with measurments or something of that sort please.
vanonen- great guide i have finally got the exploit to work. thank you so much for making this guide.

anyone having problems making this work search around for ps2menu-k as i found this to be the only launcher that would work on my PAL v5 unmodded ps2. also try making a new title.db with titlemanfrontend as this was also one of my problems. thanks again vanonen.

haha I finally worked out why the install disk was freezing and thought I would post my experiences on how to get the PAL console to work as theres no much info on the PAL version.

I needed to boot the console as a PS2 game with the mod chip not a ps1 game (which i assumed as the logo appeared on the screen and it was a cdrom) The PS2 logo appears before the install disk works. Great I finally could get the install disk to work, my problem was I then needed a bootloading program to work on a PAL console as the PAL version uses a different install directory ! I have a very simple install package now which works on a australian PAL console and you can use it to install any ELF file to the memory card. Get in touch with me if any aussies need help, I dont know about the legal issues but I am happy to host it somewhere if i wont get into trouble from sony for doing this. Anyone know the legal implementations for hosting the hd loader patched version and instructions on how to install it ?

when you compile the exploit on your pc is the file named TILE.DB or TITLE.DB if it says tile then try renaming to TITLE.DB or just create a new TITLE.DB i had many problems and it turned out to be the TITLE.DB causing them so i made a new one it works fine now. Also the TITLE.DB must be in capitals or the exploit wont work.

nrashid, the "memory card exploit" means that you can put one of your ps1 games in your ps2 and instead of the game loading, you'll get a menu with a selection of programs on it that can let you load backups, play a range of media (e.g. avi/mp3), load games off an internal hard drive, format your memory card and tonnes of other so-called "homebrew" programs.

The programs you load from the memory card have the extension ".elf" -> you can get a load of them off of http://www.console.iscentral.net/download.php

If you go into the "independence compiler" section and download the latest version of the program, it'll compile the bin/cue files for your "exploit disc". It takes you through step-by-step options for setting up the disc.

Once you've got your bin/cue, you load Nero (or equivalent).. select "burn image". Select the .cue file made by the independence compiler (it links to the .bin file) and burn at about 4x speed.

You then need a method for booting the disc (such as Swap Magic or Action Replay Max). The disc then installs the files on your memory card so that when you next put in your ps1 disc, up will come the "launcher program"/menu of all your loadable programs on the memory card.

This allows easy, and fast loading of a range of homebrew files on the ps2.

I'm getting the same exact error message, and I checked the disc I made. The file is called TITLE.DB on the CD, but it sounds like the disc is trying to write it as TILE.DB
It's turns out that it was a new memory card, and I had to format it. Once I formatted the memory card it installed fine.

Formatting isn't necessary but will work the same. All you need to do is delete the file "Your System Congiguration" off the MC in your first MC slot, this means your MCexploit installer program can make your new "Your System Cofiguration" file without "overwrite?" issues. Burning your exploit cd at 4x speed or lower also helps get the installation to run successfully.

The "tile.db" problem seems to be associated with burning at too high a speed and the ps2 has problem reading the files off the cdr correctly, so that's why it seems to mispell files on there. If you keep trying with the same disc, it will eventually manage to install all the files (worked on 4th loading attempt for me).

You need to load cdloader.elf through ARMAX off cdr (doesn't load off pendrive). It needs to be version 1 of cdloader as well.

Cdloader.elf works kinda like cogswaploader, but only for cdrs. You only need to use this once through ARMAX to swap your official ARMAX cd for your exploit disc via slide tool technique. This will load the exploit installer program and from then on you use your ps1 game to boot to your elf menu screen.
