Hello I have recently incountered problems during playback of backed up movies. This is the media info

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:MCC 02RG20 ]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc Type : [DVD-R]
Manufacturer ID : [MCC 02RG20 ]
Manufacturer Name : [Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.]
Disc Application Code : [Unrestricted Use : Consumer Purpose]
Recording Speeds : [1x , 2x , 4x] (8x Cannot Be Detected)
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4,489.3MB = 4.38GB (4.71GB)]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
[DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
If I copy a previously backed up dvd that froze during playback it freezes in exactly the same spot. This would lead me to believe that the media isn't the problem, right? If anyone has similar problems could you please let me know what you have found out?

what speed are you burning at? And is your burner's firmware up to date?

Your conclusion is wrong.

If your previously backed up DVD was crap and froze during playback, it is obvious that a copy of same will have the same problem.

Old adage - crap in - crap out.

Second adage - you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Use quality media for starters.

I think I have nailed the problem, I backed up copies of two dvds that froze on me using burner at 4x instead of 8x and they both went right by the part that froze with no problem. Now I will just have to try that for a while and I will let you know how it works.

no matter how many articles/forum threads i read, the bulk of opinion seems to state burning at 4x, no matter how good your PC spec, burner or brand of discs. I always stick to 4x, at the end of the day it only takes 15mins to rip a film, then at 4x only a paltry 15mins to burn the DVD. My previous PC was a p£ 500MHz, used to take 3hours just to rip a disc!
