I am using Teon dvd+r 8x and dvd decrypter. I first have decrypter read it and save it into iso, and then used that same program to write it. I select 1x for speed because i know burning it slow will have better chances on working. After pressing 1x it will start at 1x and it start to speed up all the way to 4x and keep at that rate.
I did it on my ratchet and clank 2 (1 time)and 3 (2 times) I used swap magic dvd 2.0 I would get the blue margin then a black screen and the disc will stop spinning.
What is the problem? is it my dvd+r, decrypter or do I need dvd-r?
I also have nero 6 if its any good to use it.
thanks.

If you have a v1-4 ps2 then you will probably want to go with dvd-r's. Some v4's can handle +r's though. And anything after that should be able to handle either.
You can check your version # in the Description section here:
http://www.gocybershop.ca/customer/product.php?productid=1292&cat=0&page=1
Also, 8x can be a problem for many people. It seems to be more effective with 4x media.

I think there's some info about them in the glossary here. Also, stay away from the RW's for ps2 games.

Quote: What is the problem?
Its either your media or your laser...or both.
Try adjusting your laser, if that doesnt fix the problem then you need to try better media.

YOUR MEDIA IS THE PROBLEM
The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list. The discs at
the bottom of the list are suitable only for a landfill.
Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2
Decent discs, though not perfect, about 85-95%
success rate:
RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R)
SONYD04 = Sony = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
PRODISC = Prodisc Media = (+RW)
INFODISC = Infodisc Media = (+RW)
RITEKG04 = Ritek = (-R)
RITEKG03 = Ritek = (-R)
OPTODISC = Optodisc = (-R)
Quality can be very questionable, about 50-80% success rate:
LEADDATA or LD01 or LD or LEDA = Lead Data = (-R)(-RW)
PRINCO = Princo = (-R)(-RW)
RITEK = Ritek = (-RW)
ONIDTECH = OnidTech = (-R)
Pathetic garbage media, landfill material, about 0-50% success rate:
RITEKG01, RITEKG02 = Ritek = (-R)
PIODATA = Lead Data = (-R) ... often sold as "Pioneer OEM" but that's false
Unbranded PIO = Fake Pioneer = (-R) ... often sold as "Pioneer OEM" but that's false
Unbranded SONY = Fake Sony = (-R)
Unbranded MXL = Fake MXL = (-R)
ACCU = Unknown OEM = (-R)
LONGTEN = Unknown OEM = (-R)
AN31, AN32, ANWELL, AN30 = Unknown OEM = (-R)
OPTODISC = Optodisc = (+R)(+RW)
MATRIX = Unknown OEM = (-R)
CMC = CMC Magnetics = (+R)(-R)
ANYTHING ELSE = Unknown OEM or NEW
Use Quality Media I use
Verbatim dvd+r 8x 100 pack ( 24.99 )

HERES HOW I COPY MY BACKUPS
1. Take the ps2 game put it in the dvd rom or dvd burner, your choice.
2. open the dvd decryptor program then go to to tool bar and hit MODE>ISO>READ. Then choose the correct dvd drive that the game is in as the "source". Also choose where you want the files to be stored on the pc hdd. THEN CLICK DECRYPT , or the huge graphical picture at the bottom of the program which makes it run. The game is now copying to your HDD. Take the game out when finished (it might take a while).
3. Go to the same tab in dvd decryptor and choose MODE>ISO>WRITE. This will then let you look for the files you just created in step 2. Select the file that you just created. (There is only 2 files creadted so pick the .mds) (The smaller file)Then click WRITE, make sure there is blank DVD in the drive.

That's exactly how I've been trying to copy them. One problem is
Quote: (There is only 2 files creadted so pick the .mds) (The smaller file)
when I select the smaller one (the one with the cd picture) the program doesn't allow me saying it should be the other one. Som I've been burning the second one.
I've also been using decrypter to burn it I know 1x is for better results so thats what I select and for some reason it starts to speed up to 4x and it stays at that rate.
Why is that? Thanks.

Last question. I am going to buy some better media and I've been thinking of getting
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
or
SONYD04 = Sony = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
Since dragula said older ps2 (mine is a v7) should go with DVD+r so should I? And I don't think it's my ps2 laser, because I've been able to play borrowed backups.

Okay do not use DVD+R, alot of PS2's cannot read these. Also, upgrade your Swap Magic Disc with the newer version. And last do not use DVD Decrypter, the program is complete crap and has given me nothing but coasters doing it the way you are talking about. I HATE THAT PROGRAM! Use Nero, I used it for my 200+ backups and not a single coaster yet. The company you buy DVD-R's from shouldn't really matter. Yeah some companies use cheaper materials, but DVD's are not meant to last forever. I have used some of the cheapest rice made discs in the universe as well as the high end products and the only time I have had problems with my media is when I used it for a frisbee and then tried to play it. Alot of people here are so jaded about this topic.

since i have Nero 6 I'm going to use that istead of Decrypter, but this doesn't look helpful
Using Nero
1. Start Nero, Use the Wizard (for easy use)
2. Select "DVD" then select Next
3. Select "Copy a DVD" then select Next
4. Select your source drive
5. Select or Deselect "copy on the fly" then click next
6. Select your write speed
7. Select either "Test", "Test and Burn" or "Burn"
8. Press "Burn" to begin
i got it from http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/15105

Danbooke:
Dont hate something because you dont understand it.
Seems funny how DVD Decrypter works for everyone
here that tried my above method EXCEPT you.
I dont use Your method but i dont run around
telling people its crap not to use it.
Let people make there own Minds.
Go try to impress people somewhere else.
(with your 200 perfect backups....BAH)
ALSO
MY ps2 is ver 7 and reads +r disks better
Than -r
And keep using cheap media sooner or later
you will get burned.
all this has been said here before if you
would do some research or just ask
