Yes, I do have a dvd rom, and I use real player to play dvds. How do I check if my dvd rom is compatible with the media? Oh...and by the way....when I put the dvd in and go to My computer, it doesnt even show that there is any sort of disk in the drive at all.
I have this same problem and was told that it's because the media (disks) are cheap. I was told that if i use maxell or a japanese disk that they would most likely read in my PC drive. The reason i was asking is because i would like to back-up some of my back-ups.

In your DVD Drive should say +R -R +/-R or DL
then check the media, if just say +R you can't play/burn anything but +R and so on. If is +/-R you can play both. you can check by downloading a program I belive is DVDINFO.com
