Yeah, I think it is. I even had the problem when I made a DVD with footage captured from my Handycam!

Wow, MCC is one of the best dyes available. What speed are you burning at? What make/model burner are you using?

NEC ND3500 / 16x4x16x DVD±RW / 4x DVD+R DL / 48x24x48x CD-RW / Dual Format / OEM DVD Burner
Using DVD X Copy I assume it is burning at 8X but not sure.

Since XCopy isn't made to burn faster than 4X I assume that's what speed they were burned at. XCopy hasn't been updated to handle the newer drives and higher burn speeds so if I was in your shoes I'd install the trial versions of CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD to see if the problem persists when using better software. What firmware version is the drive running?

I use DVDXCopy v.1.5 and I've been burning DVDs at 8X and some even faster (around 7 minutes) without a problem. I'm surprised too because it uses its own Gear Networks drivers as opposed to the updated Nero drivers. I guess I'm lucky. :) About MMCs, I have a feeling they sell DVDs that didn't pass Verbatim's quality assurance standards onto 2nd tier sellers like Velocity and Prodisc. That's what all companies do so there is little waste.

So in conclusion, I think I am going to buy some new DVD media that is recommended by my DVD burner manufacturer and see what happens. If that fails then I will try other options. Thanks everyone!

Anytime I used DVDXCopy to burn at 8X I always had problems with playback. I intentionally only buy 4X discs as there is not a manual setting to change the speed XCopy burns at. Unfortunately, 4X's are getting harder and harder to find. Luckily the local Sam's here still has tons of Verbatim 4X's MCC 002 media code for $18 so I stock up.

Ok, I updated my DVD Burner firmware and used DVDfab Express. I backed-up a DVD no problem and it came out beautiful using the same media as before. Go figure.
