i am a newbie on dvd recording as you can tell by this question. whats the differnce between the dvd-r and +r.which one is better.and the differnce of a dual layer recorder. thanx newbie mykle

Think of +Rs and -Rs as 2 competing formats but both will do the same job. The format is only important if your burner can burn only one (i.e., +R/+RW) but not the other. If you have a dual-format burner (i.e., it says +R/+RW and -R/-RW), you won't even have to worry. Dual layer is another format which allows you to burn on dual-layer discs (9GB) like the commercial movies. Most people still burn on single-layer (4.7GB) DVDs because they are only 40 cents a piece compared to $6 for D/L DVD blanks. You need a D/L drive to burn D/L discs.

I see alot of 5-star reviews, but Legacy?? No one posted the real manufacturer, and just because they burn okay, doesn't mean it will last. Why not pick up these Verbatims at Amazon. It's only $30 after rebate, and no shipping or tax. And they are back in stock! Better hurry because they keep running out of them.
