Does anyone know if you should be using different types/brands of media for making PS2 back-ups depending on the model of your mod-chip? I'm using a modchip from www.modchip.ca/ ("Chipmod") that's supposed to be the best over-all chip they offer, but not many people seem to have it, and I'm having trouble finding a brand of media that's compatable. Any info or suggestions would be great.

The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list.

Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2

Decent discs, though not perfect, about 85-95%
success rate:

RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R)
SONYD04 = Sony = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
PRODISC = Prodisc Media = (+RW)
INFODISC = Infodisc Media = (+RW)
RITEKG04 = Ritek = (-R)
RITEKG03 = Ritek = (-R)

Thanks Jizmak, I've read your list before, but it doesn't answer my question. Anyone who has any info on my chip, I'd appreciate a post.

Its the ps2 laser that reads the disk

the mod-chip has nothing to do with how it reads
or what media it would prefer.

So really the mod-chip doesnt matter.
Just use good media and burn slow 1x-2x.

I borrowed a succefully copied disk from a friend and my ps2 still won't recognize it. So I guess it wasn't the media after all. My chip must not be properly installed.
