How long does data last on a DVD-RW (if it is taken care of well)? I heard it only lasts 5 years

The current take on DVD+or-RW is about 30 years storage under optimal conditions. You have to be a bit careful about this figure as it is actully extrapolated from CDR/RW materials, those media having been around for a considerable time now.
