hi,
i am using a sony dl dvd-rw drive to burn my dvds after i shrink them with dvdshrink.
after dvdshrink finishes encoding it starts to burn the dvd using nero, i am burning at 8x speed but it still takes like 1.5 to 1.7 hours to finish the whole burn.

is this normal, or is there something i can do to fix this problem?

Sounds like you are in PIO mode. You need to be in DMA mode to speed things up.

Under device manager look for ide controllers and set them to DMA, and then re-boot your computer.

Is this burner an internal or external unit?

Are you running it through USB 2 or USB 1?
If it is running USB 1 then you will be there till the cows come home, as the transfer rate is only around 14 Mb a sec where as USB 2 transfer rate is 480 Mb a second, a massive difference.

Yep I thought that was your problem.
You can buy a 4 port USB 2 adapter from any computer shop, they don't cost much and are easy to install and that way you will have a few extra ports for something else in the future that will need this type.
Good luck.
