versions below 4 will NOT read dvd+r.you need dvd-r
all versions should read dvd-r
v5 and above can use both dvd+r dvd-r(ocassionaly v4 can read dvd+r,if your lucky)
you may find games which are constantly reading data off the disc, work better on dvd+r,but this is for v5 above
its all a matter of choice,if you use GOOD quality media nobody should have any problems.

the date you bought your ps2 doesnt determine what version your ps2 is???the console could have been collecting dust for months.

Version 1 - SCPH-30001, 10 screws on bottom of case, serial no. starts with "U1"

Version 5 - SCPH-30000R, 30001R, 30002R, 30003R, 30004R, or 30006R. Also, some SCPH-30000, 30001, 30002, 30003, and 30004 models have a V5/V6
Version 5 & 6 - the difference between these two versions illustrated

Version 9 - if you have SCPH-50000, 50001, 50002, 50003, 50004, 50006, or 50007 you have a v9 or v10 board.

I haven't heard of that media myself.

Try using 'Dvd Decrypter' for you dvd-based game burning. You can d/l it free on this site.

cheers
i have DVD Decrypter but was getting the lock volume error message ( i now know that this is because of my other sofware ) I know that there are better makes of dvd-r but would this really make a difference which one i use.

Also if my backup movies are jumping slightly could this be because of my burning software, the discs i use or the rewriter itself
