I made a backup copy of my original of The Lady Killers with no problem. Today, I looked at the copied disc, and all of the dye was gone, leaving a silver face where the dye used to be. Is this that new fade technology? Has anyone else experienced this?

The movie came from Amazon.com. It is a Buena Vista production. Stangest thing I have seen.
Has anyone else tried to backup this movie?

Thanks guys. The original still plays fine. I purchase many DVD's from Amazon.com, and have never seen this problem, before.

This is a confusing post.
Quote: I looked at the copied disc, and all of the dye was gone
Wouldn't the copied disc be the original. Then the answers about disposable DVD's would apply.
If you had said, I looked at the copy, and all of the dye was gone, then you have some strange blank disc's that I have never heard of before.

What media did you use for the copy?

The same thing happened to me when I stared Backing up DVD. If you buy cheap media you get what you pay for.

I'm very interested too because I know that any self respecting Plextor owner like Bruce wouldn't dare feed his beloved Plexy some weirdo off brand media ;P

I am using the same batch of Ridata 8X +R media that I have used before. I have never had any trouble with Ridata.
Neph, it is the copy that faded, not the original. After I copied it, I ran DVDInfoPro to check for any read errors, as I always do, before I dump the Shrink TS files. It showed no errors, and one day later, the dye was gone.

To Geestar20 - I won't get the chance to try another disc until later this week.
To Nephilim - Yes, they are the R03's. I get them from Newegg and have for the past 8 or 9 months. They have always been rock solid.
BTW, thanks to all of you for answering my posts.

That's interesting because I'm about 30 or so burns into my first 100 spindle of RiDATA R03 that I recieved a couple weeks ago. No problems so far.
I can't see where it's been asked yet so here goes - does the faded copy still play?

That is just absolutely bizarre. Have you contacted Ritek about it? I'd love to hear what they have to say about it.

I have not contacted Ritek, Neph. I just got some Verbatims from Newegg and will try one of those. There must be a shortage on Ridata 8x +R discs. Newegg did not have them in stock.
And, my Plextor PX-716A came in today. :) I haven't given it a go yet, but will use that to try to backup, again.

To Nephilim and Geestar20:
I made a backup copy of the original, on one of the new Verbatim discs I got from Newegg. It has been 3 days, and the backup still works.
It may have been one bad Ridata disc that the dye faded. Bizarre, to say the least.
