i'm trying to play a copy of age of mythology. it installed fine, but whenever i try to launch the program it asks me to insert the first disc even though it's already in there. what's wrong? will the "no cd" crack fix this? if so, where can i get that? thanks.

No discussing cracks, passwords or links to cracks and other pirated material.
what programs were you using to make this backup?
Lets see if we can get you on the right path.

clonecd was used. the thing is that the actual disc works, but the copied disc does not. it installs fine, but it doesn't seem to recognize it as the 1st disc when i launch the program.

i have read somewhere that clone cd might make this "virtual drive" or something so i uninstalled it and yet the program still fails to work.

Clonecd might have blacklisted your game which clonecd tends to do, try uninstalling clonecd the reinstall youe game and see what happens, if that doesnt work we will try using Alcohol 120% to get you going.

Quote: so i need to reinstall the game after i uninstall clonecd?
Try it.
Also what make and model is your burner.
Your burner might not be able to copy the bit patterns correctly so you might need emulation from Alcohol 120%
Quote from -Nephilim-
Quote: Your burner might not be EFM capable which means you're not going to be able to make a working copy of the game so your best bet is going to be Alcohol 120% and it's emulation options.
To give you a better understanding of what I'm talking about I'll explain a couple things. Unlike burning DVDs where the protection is stripped out, burning protected PC games involves having to read the protection then write it back to the disc - both of which need to be done very accurately. Not all burners are able to write the protections accurately enough to make a working copy......
When you try to run a protected game it needs to perform a "handshake" of sorts between the disc and the game on your hard drive to verify that the disc is legitimate. If the protection is written back to the disc accurately enough it'll pass the handshake and you have what's known as a "working" copy ? one that doesn't need emulation to run. If the copy is less than perfect the handshake will fail because the copy protection will detect that there's something fishy with the copy. In that case you can use emulation tools which basically help the disc pass the handshake process.

the thing is that the same copy was used by a friend of mine and it worked for him, so it can't be my burner. i'll try to reinstall the game though.

you made a comment that my burner might not be able to copy bit patterns correctly, but since my friend was able to use the same copy, it couldn't be that. i still have to try the game reinstall when i get home.

Unfortunately, software companies have forgotten what Uninstall means. They use it more like a "Hide" feature.
The uninstall window should state...."are you sure you want to partially uninstall this program and leave it scattered around in numerous hard to find places throughout your pc"?

is there anyway to find out if other programs i have on my computer have some sort of virtual drive? maybe it's more than just clonecd that has it?
by the way, what does alcohol do? i have it, but haven't installed it.

virtual drives are not the issue here.
Alcohol does the same thing as far as clonecd does but in my opinion way better, again in my opinion you have more control with Alcohol 120% to defeat all types of protections.
As soon as you get AL120% installed come back and we will see if we can get you going.

ah, so this is a problem with the copying instead of a software issue?
