im trying to hook up my vcr to transfer some old vhs home movies, the capture card is an msi gforce4 ti4600. i can capture directly from a standalone dvd player and a playstation no problem whatsoever, but these 2 devices are linked to the msi breakoutbox directly with the yellow of the 3 leads (yellow,red and white). however on the vhs recorder all i have is a scart socket, therefore the link isnt direct as such as it filters through the scart block first, no matter what i do im unable to get any preview through any software at all when the tape is being played. ive tried to vhs recorders now with the same problem,3 sets of leads and an array of software and drivers relavant to the cause. the video isnt connected to a TV as i was told it didnt need to be and as of yet i havent hooked up the audio to the linein of the soundcard, but i was led to believe this wasnt necassary in order to just capture the video. is there something obvious im doing wrong here, ive tried switching channels on the vhs recoder ie AV1 AV2 etc but nothing, maybe a tuning issue i dont know.

i have an svhs input on the msi breakout box but obviously no svhs on the back of the vhs recorder, just a scart...
