I recently started having problems while burning. I can get 1 out of 3 to complete. I had a Sony drive that I thought had failed. I just installed a Benq DW1620 and still having same problems. I use Shrink/Nero and reinstalled both. No changes in media........

Here is the Shrink log.

Disc's are OK but are DVD-R.
Other users of these BENQ drives also have problems burning DVD-R. Try DVD+R and other brands of disc's.
Updating the firmware might help with the type of disc's that can be burned.

I am a benq 1620 user. Maxell -4x yellow tops work great.Media codes:ritek go4,mxlrgo2,ty go1's. Even the -8x gold tops,coded mxlrgo3 are working great. I still have original b7c9 firmware and no issues.My other pc burner and many stand alones cannot tell a difference between these - maxell's and + mitsubishi and ricohjpno1.Near perfect quality backups,no playback issues whatso ever.

I have not burned any prodiscs yet.

I use Nero 6.0.0.18,or so,along with DVD Shrink on 95% of my backups and have no issues.

Try slowing down the burn speed on those prodiscs,you might have to go to 1x.Since you are using the same batch for the benq and the sony burners,you may have gotten a hold of a bad batch.

How far into the burn do they error out and is it always in about the same Burn % or different areas?

Here's a handy free trial program to tell you if you have any errors on those prodiscs,before and after burning: http://dvdinfopro.com

I updated Nero, but that didn't help. Firmware is next. I have about 75 good burns each on 100 packs of both my -R & +R media. It seems to die in random spots. My last burn went to 49%. I've had it die as early as 3% also. I will try some different media and updating the firmware tonight.

@saugmon

There is currently no free version of DVDINFOPRO. The previous free version has expired and has not been replaced. The authors way of making people buy the program. There may be another free version sometime in the future.

Hey veblim,my bad- I haven't used it for a while and this is the first news I heard about getting rid of the free trial. I very seldom used it.I got dvd identifier to check out my manufacturers codes and never took advantage of the error scans.

I updated the firmware and Nero. Shrink stopped burning the -R at 29%. It doesn't give an error, it just freezes. Anybody know of media that the Benq DW1620 likes for sure?

I already upgraded Nero. The computer is a 2.4 P4 and I have burned 150+ movies. This problem just started. The chip seems to be running at the correct temp, but I will check it out.
