What's up everyone? Just ordered a 50 pack of these yesterday from Newegg for $20.49US . Has anyone else had any experience with these? They are rated at 4X but I've heard some drives will burn them at 8X with no problems. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

 ... I've had great success using RiDATA +R media ... But the R01s are better than the R03s ...

That's all I've used since day 1 and with a 99.9% success rate (at 4x only). Be sure to inspect the recording surface of the first few discs in the cakebox. I've at times discovered flaws such as scratches and other inperfections mainly from the first few blanks at the top of the stack. Actually It's not a bad idea to do a quick lookover of the disc before the burn.

Try a Google search on RICOHJPNR01 ... it's among the best media available anywhere (probably equal to Taiyo Yuden). I read the same Newegg reviews and thought it would be middle quality Ritek R03-02 but it definitely is not! I just ordered another spool & am praying I get another one of the same Grade-A media.

Re: RICOHJPNR01

According to digitalfaq.com, and my personal experience, these disks are 2nd class media. Definitely NOT equal to Taiyo Yuden:

2ND CLASS MEDIA
Decent discs, though not perfect, about 80-95% success rate:
RICOHJPN = Ritek or Ricoh = (+R)(+RW)

Re: RICOHJPNR01

According to my personal experience, these disks are FIRST CLASS MEDIA. They definitely ARE equal to Taiyo Yuden. AND since Digital FAQ hasn't been updated since Oct 10, 2004 ... You've gotta take their ratings with a grain of salt ...

I've burned at least 500 of these with nary a coaster ... you can't beat 100% ...

You also can't beat the service that NewEgg provides ... My favorite on-line supplier ...

i'm with you catfreak, i have burnt about 400 of them and they all kprobe just as good as my Taiyo Yuden discs i also use. i haven't had one bad disc

i would definitely rank these in the same class as the TYs as long as they have the ricoh id

4 replies to my post, 4 different people, every post uses the word "definitely" and nobody misspelled it. Gotta be some kind of record. LOL.

Anyways... my second spool has the same UPC and EAN, so it's probably the same stuff. After burning more of these (& testing too) I concur this is first class media. Will concede though that Taiyo Yuden is pretty much guaranteed good, whereas RiData can vary depending on what media they use. IMO it's worth taking a chance if prices are good. Others may want to stick to "known safe" media, everyone's different.
