Tmpeg Xpress not opening most avi files

Every time I try to open a xvid avi Tmpeg Xpress tells me that it "Couldn't open the video part of the file {whatever} only the audio part can be opened".

Xpress will still open avi files that use Windows Media codecs and mpegs. The normal Tmpeg will open the files Xpress refuses to with no problem, also the files play in vido players without problems.

Any ideas what might be causeing that?
