for dvd-video backups does it really matter what media i use??

any suggestions on cheap but effective media??

Generally stay away from store brand and Memorex--The best are thought to be Taiyo Yoden (spelling?)--Sony, Verbatim Datalife, are also excellent--media Superstore is a good place I have used on-line

If buying at a local store,Look for MADE IN JAPAN on the wrapper.These are the best.

Made in Taiwan, some of these are pretty good,some of them are crap.

Made anywhere else, stay away from.

I find on sale made in japan media like maxell and sony for $20 for a spindle of 50. I don't pay over 40 cents a piece when I find it on sale.I have very few coasters,"99%",re-rip my backups-100% rate, and all the stand alones I play them on play great.

Does it really matter what media I use??
Just take a look at all the playback and burn errors threads going around here at AD. Most of them can be prevented using a high quality and a very safe 4x burn speed.
