virtualdub error - codec problem

I have tried to join two similar AVI files using virtualdub but when I try to open the files to join the message 'couldn't locate format for MP43...virtualdub requires a VFW compatible codec...' despite me installing ffdshow and divx v5.4.1. and other codecs. Can anyone help please?

try installing ace mega codec pack, google search will find the pack.

You don't need a whole bunch of codecs you probably won't use. Just Google for "MP43 codec" download and install it. It's free.
