Thank you for your inquiry.
It looks like some manufactures are illegally using our media code. If you are looking for small volume and like to be sure it's ours, please contact our direct distributor Disc Makers. www.discmakers.com *Ultra series

Where in that email exchange do you get the idea that the TY's that Shop4Tech are selling are fake?

Warning! Be careful dealing with these companies:

1. Americal.com. Expensive and not always honest about their products. They exaggerate about the quality of their discs, cases, and stickers, and I was disappointed several times before I quit using them. They are also known to pull a bait-n-switch and send you products different than what was ordered.

2. Shop4tech.com. This review is only about their blank media, not hardware or other products: Their in-house discs may be cheap (Matrix, Sonic, etc), but the quality has historically been some of the worst media around. You have to dig through the site to find mainstream media, and it often has high pricing. Individuals claiming to be shop4tech employees have been banned from online video sites more than once for immature behavior.

3. Yesbuy.net. Terrible customer service, not great prices, and the discs are normally fake. This company has sold TDK, Maxell and Pioneer fakes. Many of the "2x" and "4x" discs were actually 1x discs with forged media codes.

4. Esbuy.com. The products pictured are not what they have available. The discs were completely different when received, and getting a refund took weeks. Prices are extremely high. Most of the media was LeadData, Princo and Ritek. Customer service reps were quite clueless.

5. CompUSA.com. This store (both online and brick-n-mortar) has one of the worst return policies on the face of the planet. Avoid them at all costs, no matter what you plan to buy. Even if the media is bad, you're stuck with it.

6. QtcCDR.com. Extremely high prices. Site difficult to manage. Most of the media is low grade. Has been known to sell fake MXL and TDK media.

7. Naked-Geek.net. Never in all my days shopping online have I come across such a vile, filthy-mouthed individual. Not much is known about this company except that it's owner, Alexander Hanff, has been banned from video forums numerous times due to his unsavory behavior. His "magic" DVD-R are simply cheap AN32 media, well-known coaster material.

That dosent bode to well for Shop4Tech

excerpt from www.digitalfaq.com...
Trusted USA companies, suggested by digitalFAQ

Rated #1. Supermediastore.com. Fovorite from 1/1/2004 to present (as of this writing, 1/17/2005). In recent months, this store has begun to stock many great items, especially when it comes to blank media. And the prices are among the best around. Shipping is lightning fast, and real people answer the phone if you need to call for anything. Not one single "out of stock" problem to date! A division of Linkyo.

Rated #2. RIMA.com. Cheap and somewhat fast. Great prices, and the discs arrive within mere days. They have a large inventory, and have some of the best deals for 100-, 200- and 500-disc spindles. Excellent return policy on defective media. Has been known to send samples on request, free of charge.

Rated #3. Meritline.com. Our dealings with Meritline have always gone smoothly. If something is out of stock, they normally prevent their Web site from allowing you to order it. Shipping can be slow at times, and they've sometimes been 2-3 times longer than Supermediastore or Rima. The prices are normally pretty decent. They typically have great deals on media-case combos.

Rated #4. AllMediaOutlet.com. Another favorite place to shop. Cheap and fast. Great prices, and the discs arrive fairly quickly, in about a week or so. They have many deals that include free shipping, have been an authorized seller of Ritek (may have changed at some point), and are rarely out of stock on their media.

Rated #5. DVD-RWmedia.com. Was always a great to place to buy media. Came fast, had great deals. Used them for Princo and Ritek media for thousands of discs. A division of Linkyo.

She said some retailers are selling fake TY media. Everyone knows that. She didn't make any references to shop4tech. Her response was pretty rote. Sounded more like she was pimping a direct retailer then she was investigating your question. Which is her job after all.

And since the digitalfaq review doesn't mention anything about them selling fake media, not to mention the fact that its more than 6 months old, its not really applicable at all.

I got that same YUDEN000T02 code on the sony +1-8x 50 pack spindles at staples last month when they had them 50 for $20. Just look for made in japan on that blue outer label. They also have the taiwanese +1-8x in same quantity spindle/same blue label/and same price. You have to look careful at that label.I've heard many people running into these. These are working flawless. My burner will even let me burn these at 16x if I am not careful.

Where did you get that? They have updated there findings on 17 Feb 2005. Did you even bother to read it or just what you wanted to read. The fact also remains that I was that my corespondance with the lady from TY was all about those disk's from Shop4Tech. Are you trying to tell people on here that those are not fake? I belive a DVD-R associate when they say those disk's are fake. I was just warning people about those disk's. Now after all that is said I did buy some of those disk's (just for the heck of it) and all 50 of them burnt perfectly fine, but the fact still remains that they are still not TY's and who knows if they will still be playable in 6 month's fron now?

Hmmm I wonder your not a Shop4Tech employee are you? Because it seems to me you are just trying to argue over nothing really. The signs are all over the internet about how shady Shop4Tech is, but if you want to throw your money away at some fake TY's then be my guest, but you shouldn't be suggesting to others that those disk's are OK. Maybe you aren't directly saying those disk's are TY's, but indirectly you are. Also DigitalFaq is a well known and trusted site for a lot of people to go to and get info on digital media. Also one other note in Shop4Tech's defense does not advertise those disk's as being TY's, but they do have the TYG02 manufacturer ID code on them which is kind of shady to say the least.

hey i've been using memorex dvd +r to backup all my movies about 45 to date and have had no coasters. well, i'm all out and it's time to buy more. i've been reading all these comments about how "ty" are the best due to being more compatible, last longer, and have better quality. so, i want to try them out. everyone is talking about the ones on sale at supermediastore, 100 pack for 37.99. but these are dvd -r and i have always used +r. i am definitely going to buy a new dvd player down the line because my playstation is having a hard time to load movies since i added a modchip, plus i just want one. are these ty dvd -r going to be compatible with a brand new dvd player? i have a pioneer dvr-107d, which is dual format compatible.

You'd be more likely to get hit by lightning than find a dvd player that won't play TY -r disks. But, that of course means that it can happen. Of course, most people aren't going to worry about getting hit by lightning when they go walking in the rain, so I'd say you can be pretty confident that TY -r's will play in any dvd player you plan on buying. I've played them in a PS2, a philips, a sony, and a zenith, and I've never had any problems.

I think there may be something wrong with that guy because I went back and looked at his post and his player
Quote:
JVC XV-NP10
If you read what formats that player will play it says DVD-R not +R. So it is a little puzzeling to say the least as to why his player will play the + but not the -. Your best bet would be to read what your player supports, but you will probably not have any problems reading the -R TY's. If you are that worried about it then just get the +R, but get Taiyo Yuden!!! :-)

NO, PAL, there is nothing wrong with me and NEVER been hit with lightening either! I'm the guy whom has the JVC XV-NP10 and guess what, it still don't play the TY dvd-R. It keeps trying to read it and won't play! If you don't believe me, you can come down and try it for yourself! The older Panasonic I have plays the TY! I may be a newbie, but I know what plays and what don't play in my dvd player, okay? The TDK DVD+R play flawlessley in the newer JVC and in my 6 year old Panasonic dvd player. Everyone says the -R play in practically everything, that's bullcrap! I've burned movies for over 20 different people and every single one of them can play the TDK+R format! Now that I got the TY-R, about 65% of those same people can play them. I'm not sure of which brand of dvd players they have, but I'm sure it's quite a vast selection of brands. I kept the original 100 I first bought of the TY silver matte DVD-R because it wasn't worth my time to send the unused discs back, pay shipping and pay a restocking fee to get a few bucks back! The other 100 I ordered and never opened were refused before they got in my home so I'll at least save a few dollars on that order! In this first batch, I've burned about 35 of them so far and 3 didn't play right with pixelation problems (they were burned at 4x)and just stopping while playing. I've noticed on two of the discs before burning, there were small pits on the recordable side and small scratches already so I trashed them. Maybe I got a bad batch? I trust what everyone says about the quality orf the TY's but if I order the next time, I'll get the +R format and buy less!

I bought the TY DVD-Rs 100 pack from supermediastore and they arrived in a pack labeled "Value DVD-R"
The inscription on the disks is ?GD000269?, on the inside ring. In smaller numerals on the opposite side of ring: ?0105?
Taiyo-Yuden is nowhere on the discs.
Are these the discs you all have received and are these truly TY discs. We've used taiyo-yuden for years to back up our graphics and don't want to mess with inferior media.
Thank You
