Im sorry if this seems like a stupid question but I can't figure it out myself. I have various downloaded movies on my hard drive and I am wondering if it is possible to burn on to dvd-r. I have tried using nero and cheetah burning programs, neither were sucessful. The movies are in avi format. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You could try this program, very simple, and fast, and free(I love all those things in a software)
You want the divxtodvd program:http://www.vso-software.fr/download.htm
good luck

no, and im not exactly sure what they are loading up as...it's a drag and drop program and I think that they are being burnt as data files.
