Very confused about DVD burning. Please help.

Hi, I just purchased a BENQ DX1620 Pro and have been unsuccessful with burning ANYTHING. I tried backing up a movie just to see if I could using DVDXCOPY Platinum that a friend of mine told me to use. That program works fine for him and I've went through 3 DVD-R's trying to copy the same movie. It always seems to get to about 5% through the burning phase and just jumps to fanilizing and then spits it out 5% burnt.

I then tried just burning a data disc with a bunch of files on my computer, that also failed at around the same percent complete.

I've went through four memorex DVD-R's and nothing to show for it but a bunch of empty cases. Please help me.

I tried looking for new drivers on the BENQ website, but there's nothing there. I dont know what else to do.
