I am after a bit of guidance, well alot actually!!
I am looking to put some films i have downloaded onto disk so i can watch them but i dont know what i need to do.
I have had alook around the site but its confusing (well 2 me anyway)
This is what i think i know:
The dowloaded film is an MPEG file and i need to do something to to this file, BUT i have no idea what. Then I need 2 use nero to burn the file onto disk.
Good questions, well presented from a "newbie" perspective.
Okay, here's the deal. Downloaded "movie" files in mpeg format are usually mpeg1 (though not necessarily!). DVD video format is mpeg2, and more specifically VOB . So if these are not VOB files, then you have to encode (or "transcode") them to VOB / mpeg2 format.
There are many different ways to do this. If you have the Nero suite, you may already have a tool to do this, and not just know it: NeroVision Express. Another "one-click" type of application for the novice to do this would be dvd santa. I haven't tried it, but you might look into VSO's dvxtodvd, here:
Be aware, though, that these "one-click" solutions often have audio sync problems after converting from certain formats. If you run into that problem, you'll have to get into more sophisticated techniques and software that "demux" (demultimplex) the video and audio streams. But the "one-click" solutions are a good place to start, and you'll learn a lot using them.
Ultimately, the objective is to end up with a VIDEO_TS folder with VOB, IFO and BUP files in it. These are what get copied (burned) to a dvd to be able to watch it on a tv and dvd player.
