Title1 or Title2 - Which is the Theatrical Release

On some DVDs where they included "alternate endings", how do we know (without viewing it) which Title is the original theatrical release? The Forgotten is one example, where Title1 was the original version. Does this mean that Title1 will always be the theatrical release? Would it vary from DVD to DVD?

In my experiance Title 1 is ushually the theatrical release about 98% of the time. The only way to really be sure is to view both titles though. I just go with the first one and it works out most the time :-)
