If you have a choice use DVD-R, some ps2's don't even read DVD+R's and I've heard they might strain the laser more.

I use the Phillips 8X DVD-R all the time and have had better than great results. They are excellent DVD's
They cost more but always work for me.
I have a version 5/6 and 7 PS2's that play them with no problems.
I have never tried the +R discs.

iv tried both dvd+r and dvd-r and the +r's are better cuz its always reading off the disc and +r are better but for games like need for speed underground 2 ... it wont make a difference.

most new games ( especially ea sports ) only play like original if they are dvd+r ( from my experiences )

i got v4 with SM 3.3

PS2 V4 | Swap Magic 3.3
NEC ND-3500A | Maxell DVD+R

what?

Anyway, from what I've heard the +R's are better on your laser but to be honest I don't really think it matters. Just go with whatever your PS2 plays. Now media quality is definitely something you don't want to go cheap with. I use Ritek G04's and tons of others swear by these and Taiyo Yuden. Crappy media will deteriorate quicker and your PS2 laser will have to work really hard to try to read data it can't.

his wording is not quite right but in a sense it is true

games that read constantly off the disc, like san andreas, are said to run better when recorded on a dvd+r,thats not to say dvd-r wont work, just if people who are having problems with such games, using dvd+r instead of dvd-r.makes things improve

im using TDk -r personally, they always work great. just wondering, isnt it true that v1-6 cant read DVD+r's? i dont understand why a +r would work better (ive read that quite a few times on this site) if earlier machines cant even read them at all? anyone have some insight to this?

not quite right

v1-v3 can only read dvd-r
some v4 can read dvd+r
v5 and above can read anything

mine's a V4 that only plays -R, so I can't really tell you what's better.
