Its a DUAL LAYER disc , and dual layer discs dont support HDloader , but i have an idea that might work . If u have a DVD drive that reads the game then rip it 2 ur PC HD then put ur PS2 hd in ur PC , then find some program (forgot wat it called but it starts with WIN ) then make an ISO. Image of GT4 then use the program and it will posibly rip the game to ur PS2 HD, try it out might work

That method does not work either Sasha. The 5GB file that DVD Decryptor creates has the same problems as a HD Loader rip - ie it doesn't get past the Copyright screen. However if you put your original GT4 in the drive you can play it "from" the rip, but there is no advantage to doing this because the original GT4 DVD is accessed as frequently as if you didn't even have the rip on the hard drive. You'll still be wearing on the PS2 laser, still be spinning the DVD, and there are no loading time speed increases.

you most probably downloaded the dvd-rip. that's why it was only 700mb if the original was 2GB.

PLAY THE ORIGINAL!!
This won't work on the HDD because when the game calls for 2nd layer data, it gets lost because there is no 2nd layer on the hard drive. That's it in a nutshell.

GT4 first layer: layer0
GT4 second layer: layer1
What will the hard drive do when the game tells it to load up data that's on layer1? It will get lost because there is no layer1 on a hard drive.

its not just that, because most dvd9 games work when pc installed. The makers of GT4 did something different that no one has been able to crack yet.

GT4 does not work when you use a PC to install it, using PS2 Handiness or whatever to drop the image(s) on your hard drive. I have exhausted every combination of extracting layers and burning layers and installing layers on the PS2 hard drive using the PC, using HDLoader to rip the GT4 CD, etc...
I beat the Internet. The end guy is hard.

Personally I think it's a good thing, as I really went nuts trying to get a working copy of this game on my HD. I HATE the GT4 load times, and my PS2 HD makes games like Burnout 3 and GTA SA run like a dream.
The PS2 HD and HDAdvance really spoils you after you get used to it, so there was a tremendous desire to make GT4 load up faster between races, especially considering how much tweaking you need to do to cars. You'll run half a lap with a few settings, have to quit, re-tweak, and re-enter, and all that takes more time than I'd like.
Because of this I really tried everything in my power to backup GT4 to the hard drive, just like I did with Mercenaries (another long loader made about 5x more fun with hardly any loading after I put it on the HD).
If there's a combination of GT4 layers, images, DVD-R, DVD+R, drive speed, hard drives, HDAdvance versions, whatever, I've tried it all. Only thing that semi-works is having GT4 layer 0 on the HD and the original disk in the DVD of the PS2. That method has no speed increase or advantages of any kind because the original is accessed constantly, just as if you didn't have any image on your HD to begin with.
I beat the Internet. The end guy is hard.
