Anyone made a simple dual layer backup of GT4 and tried it?if so what happens? If a dual layer backup works thats good enuff! If it doesnt work, there must more protection on it!

Tried burning GT4 to Verbatim+DL disc. It burned. Ps2 did NOT read it. End of story.

OMG Look here, you can't get an GT4 backup working on your ps2. Not with a hard disk, not with copied dvd. The problem is (as already told before many times) that GT4 uses both layers to load. When you put that on an hardisk it can only read one layer. If you flatten your iso to one layer it still doesn't work becuase the game says on one point to read from layer 01 and gues what it finds nothing, besides when it says to read layer one it goes and search your CD/DVD player from your ps2. Making GT4 work is going to be one hell of a job, you know how much data there is in that game?! I am almost certain that somebody is working on it, although it is hard it can be done.

im sure it can be done, it has to be done. GTA: San Andreas, a MASSIVE game, is also on a dual layer disc. I copied that to my hdd via my PC and played it using HD Advance. It worked GREAT. There's no way GT4 should be any more complicated than San Andreas in terms of dvd layers. It just doesnt make sense why one dual layered game would work but another wouldn't. someone will figure this out.

im not here to argue about how much a dvd r can hold. mayyybe i'm wrong about san andreas being on a dual-layered dvd but i was pretty sure about that. even if it isn't on a dual-layered disc, that doesn't change the fact that other dual-layered games have played flawlessly from a hard drive. Something is different about GT4, and it's not the layers. that was my point. i've read a lot of other threads on afterdawn since my last post on this thread, and now I know i'm just restating what has already been said or speculated.
decker12, you said that gt4 will work if you install it on the hard drive and run it from the hard drive as long as you have the original disc in the ps2 (which defeats the purpose) but I tried that and it didn't work. the game still went black after the copyright screen. Is there anything specific you did? what about booting the game from the hdd while having a back-up copy of the game in the disc drive? let me know what you think.

For all you DMS4 Pro or Lite mod chip users, life just got better. Just updated the ToxicOS to 0.3, ripped GT4 with DVD Decrypter, burn on a Verbatim dual layer media, and it worked!!

i found a way!
So i have a dual-layer writer on my computer + DL dics but i need i special chip of 30? to be able to play copied DL on my PS2. There's a way but at the end it costs more to buy the chip and DL discs than to buy the original :S

yea it might cost more at first, but the idea is that you can save money in the long run by getting a mod chip. I would do it, except i'm poor, my ps2 is old and the laser isn't reading disks well anyway, and i don't know how to solder! lol i really hope they crack gt4 so it will work on the hard drive. that hard drive is my way of salvaging my ps2!

It only works in conjunction with the modchip, you have to have the Toxic OS V0.3 or either Toxic Bios V1.3 to have it work, modchip has to be used because it flashes the bios to the modchip.

Hi everyone,i'm kinda new to this stuff but,if you open the mds/mdf/iso file of your copied game in iso buster,it lets you look at the sectors(the hex code + translation of the hex code)of each file.now,if you right click and look at the sector view of the IOPRP300.IMG file, and go to LBA sector 1637 (you can scroll through them using the red arrows),it has all the stuff about dual layer/parallel track path etc,if there is a program that can edit this img file, and somebody knows a bit more than me about ps2 code/programming,maybe this is the key to cracking it.good luck!!
