Who in the right mind does this? and why?
why put toothpaste on cd's and dvd's to cover up scratches then stick it into your players. wtf???????
I never ever had any problems using dishwashing soap and hot water or windex and hot water. If im feeling really nice I'll clean it up with scratch DR. but lately Ive just been using my screen cleaner stuff called screen guardian..works just fine about 98.9 %
my dvd palyer or burner doesnt have teeth...It was a topic on here that i was reading. i cant beleive what some of you people do it blows me away. why make everything so complicated?

I haven't tried the toothpaste trick yet, but I did try scratch doctor on a badly scratched disk that my wife had a hand in producing.

wtf.....is up with this scratch doctor thing? It looked like I had sandblasted the damn disk after finishing the single pass with the doctor.

Damn good thing my real doctor doesn't fix things like the scratch doctor......I'd be in a hell of a shape!

I seriously doubt that screen guardian would bring back new life to some of the disks my wife gets her hands on!

Nine out of ten dentists agree, people who have opinions on things they've never tried are idiots.

People use toothpaste to fix scratches on their cds/dvds because it is a cheap, readily available alternative to other medium abrasives. Some scratches can't be fixed by cleaning with soap or using the light abrasives in spray disc cleaners. For those occasional situations when a medium abrasive is required, toothpaste works great.

so besides calling me an idiot you want me to go put toothpaste on my dvd's or CD's that are scratched up when I can fix them with scratch DR or my soap and water and come back here and kiss your ass and say your so right wise one? why didnt I do that along time ago. Do your self a favor wreck your own burner/players and tell me how much you paid for the new items. when i just bought myself an .89 cent bottle of cleaner and a 15 dollar scratch dr. call me an idiot. for 15 dollars you get about 80 cd's/dvd's. for .89 i get alot of dvd's and alot of dishes done. think before you call people idiots. if you want to use toothpaste go ahead. whatever grandmaster

You started two threads off by insulting people. In the other one, you ask why some many people are having trouble ripping movies that you ripped without incident. In this thread, your first sentence starts off by implying that people who use toothpaste to fix scratches on their disks aren't in their right mind.

If you start out by insulting people, don't get all bitchy when people start insulting you back. It just makes you look like even more of a child than you already do.

If you actually read my post, instead of just crying like a little bitch when you read the first line, you'd see that I said:

I didn't say you should use it instead of soap or spray cleaners.

1) Don't start threads just to insult people.

2) If you haven't tried something, shut the fuck up about it.

3) Read a post in its entirity before you cry about it in response.

I think he needs instructions/guides in how to remove toothpaste from the DVD prior to insertion into the reader. Preferably step by step.

I don't think that Sickman1 understands that you remove the toothpaste from your disc after you have cleaned your disc and before you put the disc in your player.

Personally some of my grade AAA+++ spit and whatever shirt I am wearing almost always works.

Skoal long cut straight does a great job. That fine stuff gets messy and a heck of a lot more crc errors.

I thought it had to be arm and hammer toothpaste with baking soda? lol

Let's see now. What is actually on the resurfacing wheel of the DiskDoctor or DVDDoctor? Um, how about a very fine grit emery cloth. Now isn't that even more of an abrasive then toothpaste? But of course it comes with a nice wheel and a special resurfacing fluid, (distilled water.)

So I can use my toothpaste with a bit of water and lightly polish the scratches off my DVD or if they are extensive, place them in my DVD Doctor and crank away.

Bottom line is to remove a scratch from a DVD disk; you have to smooth it down by removing the scratched polycarbonate material, and to do that you need an abrasive material. Water as far as I recall cannot do this on it?s own and neither can disk washing fluid, they just remove those nasty finger prints or someones left over food spills. Think of toothpaste as a rubbing compound for Disk?s!

But the best feature was mentioned in a different thread and that is it makes them smell minty fresh for those extra close personal moments between you and your DVD!

Sickman,

You're not actually supposed to brush the disks. And be sure to rinse and floss!

Well, if you really want to do it right, you use the toothpaste to clean the disks, and use the dish washing liquid to brush your teeth. That way your dvds smell minty fresh, and your mouth is disinfected after those longs nights of kissing hookers.

Why the insults? I've heard about the toothpaste trick too. It could be urban myth or old geek's tale, but if it works, it works. I've had discs that could not be read at times. I washed them with soap and water and stuck them in the refrigerator. They worked. It fould be a myth too but if it works in the end, who cares? Whatever works for you. But I'm warning the guy who puts Windex on DVD media: not good - stop it.
