dvd 9to5 : Deep Analysis and Sharp Default or not

i've been using deep analysis and sharp default with shrink,is this a must for good quality back ups,if not at what point of compression do i need these settings.

I never use deep analaysis because it takes my machine forever. I still get very good quality without it, so no it's not a must. help?

I would use deep analysis and sharp or smooth is up to you as to your preference. They wouldn't be there if it made no difference. I dont copy anything but the movie and try to drop the credits, subs, and foreign audio in hopes that I can get it to fit without compression.

jacsac i totally honor your opinion,but have you ever done a movie that you had to shrink ,without deep analysis etc and compared the exact movie to the one that got analized

I never usually do these added features. I did do them on Star Wars II the return of the clones. I did see a little bit better picture quality. I did it becuase the disk is over 2 hours with no menu's just bare movie and I was looking for a way to compensate for the compression. While its no miracle, I did compare it to a copy that did not use the special features, and i did see some minor improvements. I have a 54 inch Samsung HDTV 4:3 that uses component cables.

You will notice a difference the more you compress your movies!! I have a 60" LCD TV and you can tell the difference. I can't tell much of a difference on my daughter smaller TV's but there is a difference. Now most of my movies end up with little or no compression anyway because I only back up the main movie so most of the time Deep Anaylisis isn't even an option. Of course you wouldnt need it then because you are getting a 1:1 copy of the movie. I just leave deep anaylsis checked as default and don't bother with the other quality setting this only takes a couple of extra minutes and I don't notice any difference when using the other two quality settings. So I would say Deep Anaylisis makes a difference as far as the other two that would be a personal choice. I would say if you go to 80% or lower for compression then you should for sure use Deep Analysis...

I would do it if the compression is high... say if you are in the 80's or lower. Sometimes you just can't help it. If you have a long movie you have to compress. Those extra features are great if you have a fast computer. Otherwise it can add an hour to the whole process or even more depending on how slow your computer is. They really help in exteme dark and light parts of a movie that will really show the compression and pixel out!
