I have a laptop with an internal DVD-RW drive. Is it possible for me to hookup an external DVD-RW drive through the USB and burn 2 different movies at the same time using the two separate drives? Will this cause quality problems?

Man have some patience. To burn a second movie it will only take another 15-20 minutes!!!

And IMO, yes it will cause problems. Because your transfer rates will probably be different.
