i am burning My own DVDS of a short Documentary that i put together and at present i am using DVD+ , but it does not play on my Sisters Player which is a simple Proline DVD1040. The specs say that this machine will play DVD+ but it doesnt and i wonder whether , apart from the minefield of multiregion or ntsc/pal what is the most generally accepted format to burn that is accepted by the most DVD players?
Is there a different bias according to country?
Thanks
Rich

What brand of discs are you using? What speed are you burning at?

This batch are Philips and they are 1-4X discs..The discs play on my Laptop (vaio with a multi format DVD burner reader +/- etc)
My Sisters player does however read RW discs but i obviously would rather send out discs that cant be written over.
thanks for replying BTW

You may want to try another brand of media. You didn't mention what speed you burn at, but it looks like you are burning no faster than 4x. If your burner is capable of bitsetting, you may want to change the booktype of your +R media to DVD-Rom so that it may be more compatible in any dvd player. Hope this helps.

Some rules of thumb to maximize compatiblity with older players

1. Good Media (Taiyo or Ritek is best)
2. burn at a slow speed 4x or even 1x is best
3. remove menus (if any)
4. set your booktype to dvd-rom (if possible)
