In backing up playstation 2 games is there a special or certain kind of blank dvd you need because i heard there was and if you use the worng kind it could mess up your laser.

I have had better luck with DVD+r as opposed to DVD-r. Not all playstations read DVD+r however. A lot of people use Ritek Ridata but I have had better luck with Tayo Yuden.

No I don't think so. If you use bad media you will get freezing and sound that doesn't match the action. My brother-in-law has the same Platstation and the same Mod chip as I do. I bought Taiyo Yuden +r and he wanted to save a few bucks and bought Phillips +r. Three out of the last five games did not work for him. When I burnt them with TY's all worked. The only difference is we use different DVD burners but I dont think it's the burner.
