Problems with Slimline PS2 and SM3.3 with kit

I installed the kit in my slimline (3 piece kit with SM 3.3), and I had no problem running my "original" games, but when I try to run my "back-ups"... they either do not load or "freeze-up". I never had a problem with my old PS2 (version 9). I have tried both leaving the lid up and being closed. All my games are burned through Nero 6.6 and I use Sony DVD-R. Can some one tell me their steps they use to play the games... to see if my media is going BAD, or what I can do to play back-ups???

I have noticed a trend in my back-ups. It seems that after they intially load, I can see the laser goes toward the outside of the disks (like it is not trying to read). This has happened on about 6 games. But when I load originals... they load just fine. I have also examined my back-ups, and there are no signs of scratches or marks on the disc iteself.
