I remember way back before the PS2 there were a few sites that held lists of PS1 games and any requirements required to backup.

I know swapmagicfix has a partial list of games for SM2 & 3.0 also there are several threads with some of this information for the PS2 but these are very messy. Does anyone have a link to something similar for PS2 backups?

not that i know of. ther are a few that need patches or junk/dummy files removed. i would just do a search on this site and start reading before you burn a game.
Most will work just fine without and further steps, but some just won't
