Must be a typo you made -- and you meant ".ace" file in the thread title !
Ace files are compressed data done by a program called WinAce -- (( an offspring of Winzip , Winrar )) -- ! Same family.
Winrar will uncompress them ; and give you the original file. An bin file to go with that cue file.
Edited for typo.

No its definately a .APE file,
its a compressed music file,i can decompress it into a wma file and listen to it without problem, except that instead of being split into several music tracks with id tags its just one continuous track.I think thats where then CUE file comes into play and where i get stuck

Hi again , decompressing the file isn`t a problem except its one long audio track without breaks or id tags.Thats where i`m guessing the CUE file comes into play.
Trouble is nothing that i normally use for burning will do a CUE and APE file ???

Ummmm give this a try open up your cue file and edit it (notepad), see what is in the path, as below it is BIN if yours says that then just rename it to .bin. Or just edit your cue to point to your .ape file.
FILE "D:\IMAGES\example.BIN" BINARY
TRACK 01 AUDIO
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 AUDIO
INDEX 00 03:39:21
INDEX 01 03:41:21
TRACK 03 AUDIO
INDEX 00 07:13:26
INDEX 01 07:15:26
TRACK 04 AUDIO
INDEX 00 11:29:55
INDEX 01 11:31:55
TRACK 05 AUDIO
INDEX 00 14:40:38
INDEX 01 14:42:38
TRACK 06 AUDIO
INDEX 00 18:37:49
INDEX 01 18:39:49
TRACK 07 AUDIO
INDEX 00 22:08:44
INDEX 01 22:10:44
TRACK 08 AUDIO
INDEX 00 25:48:03
INDEX 01 25:50:03
TRACK 09 AUDIO
INDEX 00 29:10:20
INDEX 01 29:12:20
TRACK 10 AUDIO
INDEX 00 33:10:40
INDEX 01 33:12:40
TRACK 11 AUDIO
INDEX 00 36:57:18

Then just burn the CUE file in Nero or whatever you want to.

What actually is this that you are trying to burn, because i would like to know if these .ape files are created by a burning program. Because if its music related, read back a few posts but if it isnt. Once in Nero burning rom click the recorder menu @ the top then go down to burn image then make sure you select the cue file when burning and if you dont have a cue file then create one, have alook above. And exclude the Track 01 audio and below

Cool! It works. A missing point: my .cue contained .WAV file in the FILE stmt, but the archive had .cue and .ape files, not .wav.
So - I downloaded monkeyaudio and uncompressed .ape, which generated .wav. Then I butned .cue as Dude described.
Thanks folks!
