I recently had a version 9 ps2, and I did at times notice that about all of my back ups loaded slow, sometimes tiled out, and then would freeze or just read at all. I just purchased a slimline PS2 and now I noticed all the above even more. I'm guessing that it is one of 3 things. My media "Sony DVD+R 1X-4X", or my burning software "both NERO 6.6 and Alcohol 120%", or my writer "NEC DVD_RW ND 2501A @ 2.0 USB" do not want to get along together. I would like some feedback on what you suggest. Not to mention... not that this is suppose to be in this forum, but I also use DVD Shrink for my DVD back-ups, and I am also experiencing the same issues on my movie copies as well. Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

I'm guessing the usb burner is your problem. Everything else sounds good.

if you having problems with both ps2/movies
then the likelyhood is your media

check for the following though

check whether DMA is on,
if its off,enabled it
check whether you have working ASPI layers,
if not,install them
these can both contribute to poor performance

you can use Nero infotool to find this out

I did find out that there is a firmware update on the NEC 2510A, the DMA was on (already enabled), and that ASPI layers was (systems ASPI, but not installed) I switched it to Neros' ASPI and saved it.

Try some -R media if those other suggestions don't work, just for kicks. Some PS2's can be very picky about what type of media they will recognize. I have some +R (4X Maxell) and some -R and both will play in my PS2's
But when i make back ups now i only use -R because i find that the load times are a bit better for me. Plus i just found a disc that works 100% of the time,
Phillips 8X DVD-R, and just stick with them.

Just curious... would the NEC 2510A perform better if it was removed from the 2.0 external enclosure and placed inside my PC through its original cable instead of the USB adaptor???

My Burner is a NEC 2510A, but internal, no problem with it at all, but what media your PS2 will read best depends on the laser installed. My PAL 39004 read dvd+r better than the dvd-r...

I use Verbatim media...

SCPH 39004 (PAL) Swap Magic 3.3

I have also received information that if you use "full-labels" as a cover for your DVD/PS2 back ups it can affect your disc reading, causing freezing... tile-out... or lock up during play. Has anyone ever heard of this??? I do currently use CD-Stomper and full labels for ALL my back ups.
